I would like to share a positive experience with regard to Kerry helping me. As I am a man, Kerry understood and recognised that I needed to take action with regard to certain things in my life. At first I was reluctant to attend counselling and did not think I needed any sessions. Upon arrival I was welcomed by Kerry and made to feel at ease. The space she has is very relaxing and always has a nice calming smell with fresh flowers. On broaching the subject of my past I did not see how my past could have any affect or be causing my anxiety now. I was asked by Kerry to do a time line from my earliest memory to the present day and bring this to my next session. I left it until the night before and my partner had to sit with me to do it as I did not see the point in this. Upon giving it to Kerry she requested I read it back to her. I started to read and as I continued it became harder and harder to do. There and then I realised that it was all linked and everything that I had bottled up was right there in front of me coming out. “I laid it all out on the floor in the room and Kerry helped me deal with it.” She suggested mindfulness, meditation and being kind to myself. Shortly after I joined the Buddhist centre and I now regularly attend mediation and practise mindfulness daily. Along with this and Kerry ‘s support I feel as though I have moved forward and I am for the first time in a long time putting myself first and listening to myself which has improved my health greatly. I would highly recommend Kerry to anyone in their time of need. She listens, shows empathy and always knows what to say. Many thanks Kerry for all that you have done for me.

Although we were a little apprehensive about what counselling might have to offer us it has brought us on a journey which has made us even stronger than we ever imagined. We thought we had previously had a strong stable relationship and then when we hit the difficult times it all fell apart and we never thought we would get back what we had. We had both sort of come to terms with the fact that maybe we could fix the hole but that it would always have cracks. My 10 year old son had been struggling with a number of issues: bullying, bereavement and serious illness within our family over the preceding 2 years. He had become increasingly withdrawn and detached, low in mood and irritable. He then started to lose interest in his school work, having always been a bright and diligent pupil. Our family was extremely worried about him, as was the school. Having not had any direct experience with counselling we were a little apprehensive. Kerry is an extremely gentle lady and my son seemed to immediately connect with her and formed a good rapport. I sat in on the sessions, at his request, and it was enlightening for me to hear what he had been feeling and thinking. Within a few sessions he started to improve and now seems back to his old self, which has resulted in much relief and delight all round! He seems to have developed a greater awareness of his feelings and the impact that this can have on his thoughts since the counselling. I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all you have done for me in the short time we spent together. When I agreed to go down the counselling route, I was very apprehensive and did not know what to expect. I would never have thought I would be one of ‘those people’ that needed to speak to a stranger to help sort out any issues I had. However, I knew I had to do something to try and turn my life around. At my first session, you immediately put me at ease and straight away I knew I had made the right decision to seek some help. I was able to open up to you comfortably and you managed to get me talking about things I never even really knew were an issue for me. From this, I was able to put plans in place to try and help support me in these areas. I just needed that time out from my very busy day to day life to concentrate on me and understand what it was that I needed. I have recently completed a six-week course of counselling arranged through my employer. At the time of referral I was experiencing some difficulties at work caused by a very difficult personal life. I am very organised and structured and very much in control of my life and feelings. Ordinarily, I am emotionally intelligent and very self-aware. However, at a point in my life when I recognised a loss of self- control and self-awareness, I acknowledged the need for counselling support. I was referred to Kerry and although I was anxious, due to never having accessed counselling before, we instantly ‘clicked’. Kerry is extremely warm and caring and has a very nurturing approach. Kerry instantly made me feel relaxed and I found myself opening up readily. I believe Kerry was able to read me well and was very skilled at supporting me to identify my own strengths and areas for improvements. I attended during what was one of the worst times of my life. Suffering from anxiety, stress and depression. Having previously attended counselling sessions the previous year with a different counsellor which were so unprofessional they exasperated my anxiety and feelings of isolation. I was left feeling like no one could help me. I was literally at rock bottom when Kerry picked me up, and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I had a support to stop me from slipping any lower. Week by week I continually made progress, and whilst it wasn’t always plain sailing putting some of the techniques we discussed into practice in my day to day life, I knew I had the support there which was a big comfort. We addressed the root causes of my anxiety which was extremely insightful, allowing me to put a lot of negative feelings I had been allowing to fewer inside of me to bed. Firstly would like to thank you again for helping me through my separation and giving me the counselling that was required to help me cope better with my life. I have certainly never been as challenged and as hurt in my life and hope you will feel proud that your professional approach helped me through that bad time. Over the Christmas period in 2012 I found out my wife had feelings for someone else and we separated. We had been together for 30 years. It was the worst period in my life and I had never felt pain and hurt like I was feeling at that time. I had an opportunity to have counselling through the NHS but it was mostly self-help through reading internet pages. I felt this would not help me. I started counselling with Kerry in early February and I was willing to try anything to help me. Through the sessions that followed, I slowly began to understand my feelings better and why I was feeling the way I was. I was made to feel comfortable and slowly began to be able to cope with my problem. As the sessions continued I found I was able to continue my life without the level of anguish that I originally felt. We constantly reviewed my situation and I felt re-assured that I was in a better place and had handled my problem in the best way for me. I am now able to cope a lot better since my counselling and hopefully will be able to have a happy, normal life.

I recently completed several counselling sessions with Kerry. It took me over a year to admit that I couldn’t deal with everything that had happened on my own, that I needed help. I was at an emotional breaking point when I sought the help that I needed. I was a massively anxious individual and over a few years this anxiety had manifest into a disorder that prevented me from social interaction and impacted me daily. I was in two minds as to whether or not seek counselling…I went to see Kerry in the hope that speaking to a neutral party will help me overcome my personal issues, hoping that I can try to make some sense of everything that had happened around me, causing my entire life and all relationships around me to crumble. As a GP, I was encountering a huge amount of work related stress, but never thought that I would be one of “those” people who have a breakdown. I saw myself as such a resilient coper, that it was all the harder when I finally crashed. My brother visited Kerry Quigley on a weekly basis for several months during the latter part of 2013. He suffers from early diagnosed Alzheimer’s, but also lacks confidence in communication skills and displays a general naivety regarding relationships with friends and acquaintances. I was initially skeptical of the benefits of relationship counselling, but from our very first session Kerry’s calm demeanour, comfortable workspace and willingness to listen helped us both to express ourselves freely without fear of scrutiny or judgement. I went to see Kerry when I was mentally at rock bottom, I’d had a lot of stress at work, which resulted in a breakdown and as a consequence I developed severe anxiety. I’d gone from being a confident and happy person to being overwhelmed by the smallest thing. However instead of taking medication to mask the symptoms, I wanted to try counselling to help alleviate and heal the trauma. With Kerry’s gentle encouragement and practical advice, I was able to take a step back and look at my life from a new perspective. I’d been so busy getting on with living, holding down a full time job, being a wife and mother and living up to the stereotype of having it all, that I hadn’t actually looked deeply at the patterns or stresses of my life. I had been enduring a toxic environment for a long time, and my body and mind were telling me that enough was enough. As a result of the Counselling sessions with Kerry, and the way in which Kerry helped me look at situations, I was able to move forward and I built up mental strength, and I found that I had the ability to take control of issues that were affecting me, whereas before I would have been overwhelmed and would have allowed the issues to send me into a downward spiral to rock bottom. I was now able to take control of these issues, and instead of them controlling me, I controlled them and their effect upon me. As part of the healing process, I re-visited a creative hobby that I’d loved, and I dove into that with all my heart and soul. I found that when I escaped into a world of creativity, it took me away from the present anxiety, and as a consequence and with Kerry’s counsel and encouragement, it all helped me heal, re-gain confidence and make healthy and beneficial life decisions. The techniques that Kerry has taught me have given me the tools to deal with difficult future issues. I now stand in a happy, confident and healed place, and with many thanks to Kerry, I am very much looking towards the future.

I worked with Kerry in six sessions after I was given her contact details through the Employee Assistance Provider. As a consequence of Work related stress I was suffering from Generalised Anxiety when I started my sessions with Kerry. I was experiencing very low mood and self-esteem, a distinct lack of self-worth and almost zero confidence. I was also in a very anxious state and was finding all aspects of my life a struggle. Through very sensitive and caring listening Kerry was able to help me to understand why I was feeling the way I was. She also was able to offer me a lot of helpful and practical steps that enabled me to regain some balance and perspective on my thoughts, feelings and emotions. She offered me her own advice in sessions, she pointed me to many online options that offered support in dealing with my stress and anxiety and we discussed mindfulness techniques and practices. In this way I was able to continue acting on the areas we discussed in between our sessions which in turn helped me regain my mental well-being and health again. I have been working with Kerry for approximately five years. At time of first contact I was having suicidal thoughts and had received counselling from two other professionals. My name is Mark I am a 48 year old male and came to Glister Counselling through work related stress and was in a very dark place in my life through the sheer lack of my employers to do their jobs right as they never followed their own policies or procedures and at the end I just lost the plot with a manager. I must admit I was sceptical about counselling as I have been used to dealing with everything on my own and in my own way. I saw Kerry on two separate occasions while I was going through my awful heartbreak. She has helped me enormously by just being there for someone to talk to. It was nice going into the office where she is based as it is easy for me to get to and I was always offered a cup of tea or coffee which also helped me stay calm. When I first approached our Employee Assistance Program, it was because I was having difficulties in my relationship with my husband and felt like I was in a downward spiral of destruction. I was instigating and exacerbating problems which would then degenerate into bigger problems. In my opinion, everything else was OK. My mum had passed away about 6 weeks earlier and my mind hadn’t made the logical link that the two were related and that my feelings about losing my mum were causing ‘blurred vision’ of things around me. Whilst I had read about what grief does to you, I always believed I was a ‘tangible’ person, and that I could compartmentalise feelings whilst getting on with everyday activities. In retrospect, I was functioning at work, role-playing being a mum and pretty much destroying my marriage. Talking to you made me realise I wasn’t this emotional void, but that perhaps that I hadn’t read the instruction manual. I didn’t know what the emotions I experienced were called, how I could identify them in me and, more importantly, how I should deal with them. You gave me perspective in what I thought were big issues, gave me strength to look at the things I had previously shut away and showed me how to recognise the cause of the current ‘blurred vision’. From this, I gave myself permission to grieve. You helped me recognise my strengths and work on the emotional weaknesses to reach a more balanced approach to addressing conflict and upset. I’m still a work in progress, but I feel I’ve got better tools to do the job, and a few notes worth referring back to if I lose my way again! I’m not sure if any of this will be useful for your testimonies – either way; it’s an honest review of how I feel and a reiteration of my thanks for working with me.

Last year I hit a personal crisis. I had never had counselling before but recognised that I would need help from an independent professional in order to address the issues I was unable to move past on my own. A personal recommendation brought me to Kerry and I’m extremely glad it did. I asked Kerry not just to help me work through my dark times but to help me build my toolset so that if I ever again experienced an event that would otherwise sink me, I would be able to keep myself afloat and get back to full speed much more quickly. I also asked her to give me homework between sessions, as I wanted to progress and develop as much as possible and as quickly as possible. I imagine I was quite a challenging client! Kerry has been brilliant at responding to my requests and needs – and she has also brought so many valuable things that I could not possibly have foreseen or envisaged. I have never had a session with Kerry in which I haven’t learnt something extremely valuable and useful. Some sessions have been revelatory; others more low key, but all very valuable. I continue to see Kerry as my counsellor now not because I need to (my ship is happily sailing again and Kerry has played a significant part in this relaunch), but because I want to explore how much further I can learn and develop myself with her support. A good friend recommended Kerry to me and I have no hesitation in adding my recommendation of Kerry’s counselling service to all who read this.

I never thought I would suffer from depression or would need to talk to somebody about my feelings. However, something happened in my life which left me not wanting to live anymore. “I was scared about asking for help”
Counselling was not something I ever really thought was for me, in truth I was scared about asking for help as it was unknown. Like many people making the first phone call was the hardest but the process was very easy and I was put in contact with Kerry. Kerry has a way (even on the first phone call) of making you feel that she understands you and genuinely wants to help. When I left my first session I felt so much lighter and ready for whatever was coming my way. Throughout my time working with Kerry this was a theme that continued, her empathy, support and understanding was brilliant and as a result of her non-intrusive questioning I began understand the impact I let situations have on me and my reaction to them. I found that I really enjoyed my sessions and found Kerry to be a brilliant help. If anyone has doubts (like I did) that counselling isn’t for them, my advice is give it a go. Kerry is really great at getting you to see things in a different way and for some people that’s all that’s needed. I don’t think there is anything I can say that can really express how grateful I am to you for the work you did with me and the changes to my life that have happened because of the counselling. After a few very difficult years in our relationship we decided that couples counselling would be the only way we could try to move forward, we arranged weekly sessions with Kerry, where we spoke openly about the problems in our marriage. This provided me a safe place to be able to discuss some very difficult situations during our marriage, the sessions were difficult at first to talk openly about what had happened, but Kerry soon put us at ease, and helped to create open discussion around various situations. Kerry advised us both on ways we could improve, and overcome some difficult situations. As the weeks went by, with little or no improvement, Kerry then guided me through splitting from my husband. I really do not know how I would have managed to get to that point without the support from Kerry. The sessions helped me to understand, how bad our situation had become, and that improvements had not been made. I then continued sessions alone with Kerry, who continued to support me alone through the separation from my husband. I am now in a much better place, and have a better understanding about the reasons and behaviour of my husband. Thank you Kerry, your support enabled me to see how bad the situation had become, and that he was not willing to change his behaviour. You gave me the strength I need to look forward, and begin to rebuild my life with my children.

I have had ten years of counselling with various therapists and although every one of them benefited and helped me in some way there are only two that stand out. One of these is Kerry Quigley who has provided me with defined tools to use for day to day in the work place and home. She was friendly and listened but was able to ask just the right questions to enable me to look at the various subjects in my life and there affects. She is not pushy or overzealous but natural and manages to balance empathy with common sense. I would have more sessions and have agreed that if I need to dip in for a bit of help I will book further sessions, even one offs if necessary.

I have been going to Kerry for regular Supervision sessions since 2013. I count myself very blessed to have Kerry as a Supervisor for the Emotional Healing work that I do with clients. I work very differently to a typical “talking therapist”, instead using guided meditation, emotional body awareness and heightened levels of consciousness as compared to normal “talking” levels of consciousness in my sessions. Because of this unique way of working that I have organically developed over time I was unsure if I would be able to find a professional counselling Supervisor who could hold me in my work. Kerry has been amazing. I picked her from many because she uses mindfulness techniques and other meditational journeying practices herself and I have been delighted to find that she completely “gets” my work. Together for 2 years, we had begun to go through cycles of repetitive arguments, and were starting to feel quite miserable with the state of our relationship. We both felt quite helpless to make changes and were even considering ending the relationship as it felt like our problems were irrevocably tied to who we were as people. Kerry is so warm, friendly and open and made us feel comfortable and listened to right away. The difficulty when choosing a first supervisor is not knowing what to expect. My experience has been of feeling afraid to say that I hadn’t worked as well as I could have. How enlightening to be treated with dignity and positivity. With Kerry I am able to be completely open, and never feel judged if at times I lack wisdom when working with my diverse group of clients.
